Acting President of Amirkabir University of Technology: Possibility of Offering Maritime and Navigation Education in Bachelor's and Master's Programs

The Acting President of Amirkabir University of Technology announced the possibility of offering education in the field of maritime and navigation in bachelor's and master's programs. He stated, "In addition, Amirkabir University of Technology can provide short-term or long-term specialized training in the field of maritime and navigation."

According to the Public Relations Office of Amirkabir University of Technology, Dr. Alireza Rahaei emphasized the importance of obtaining specialized certificates for activities in the maritime and navigation sector during a meeting with officials from the Ports and Maritime Organization. He mentioned that universities can offer comprehensive packages of short-term or long-term specialized engineering courses in the field of ports and maritime navigation, which would be beneficial for the Ports and Maritime Organization in terms of guidance and overall supervision.

Furthermore, he mentioned the possibility of developing degree programs in the field of maritime and navigation at the university campus. He also highlighted the potential for research-oriented activities in maritime economics at the university and mentioned the collaboration with various organizations through the SATU system, as well as the positive experience gained from collaboration with the Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, which could be implemented in the field of maritime and navigation.

Rahaei also announced the establishment of a joint committee between Amirkabir University of Technology and the steel industry, with a budget of three and a half billion Tomans allocated. He stated that if the theses are in line with the industry's needs and are recommended by the committee, they will receive support.

The Acting President of Amirkabir University of Technology also mentioned the development of a comprehensive plan for engineering education in the country, stating that they have been working on this university-wide plan for about a year. The plan has passed its final approval stages at the Ministry of Science and will be implemented to showcase the country's engineering education in a well-structured manner, emphasizing skill-based topics.
Rahaei emphasized, "In the field of coastal systems, we have a monitoring group at Amirkabir University of Technology that is involved in significant projects such as monitoring the health of Milad Tower, in collaboration between the Faculty of Maritime Engineering and the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Therefore, one of the good areas that can be addressed, especially in terms of sensitivity, health, and corrosion of port structures, is to carry out significant projects."

He stated, "The approach of Amirkabir University of Technology in this period is based on solving industrial problems and supporting the country's needs in various industrial sectors. In this regard, three priority areas have been defined for the university: maritime engineering, aerospace engineering, and artificial intelligence."
Rahaei added, "The announcement of the general policies of sea-based development by the Supreme Leader to the government makes it necessary and obligatory for cooperation between the Ports and Maritime Organization and Amirkabir University of Technology. This university has a long and successful history in training specialized human resources and carrying out influential maritime industrial projects."

Furthermore, Dr. Ali Akbar Safaei, the Deputy Minister of Roads and the Head of the Ports and Maritime Organization, also stated during the meeting, "We are trying to ensure that constructive cooperation and interaction between these two organizations take place in the best possible way by removing obstacles and problems."

He emphasized the necessity and importance of cooperation between the Ports and Maritime Organization and Amirkabir University of Technology, stating, "The Ports and Maritime Organization is ready to provide financial support for student theses in line with the organization's needs. Additionally, it aims to recruit 200 elite individuals as part of its agenda."
